George and Melissa attend DRI Product Liability Conference

February 2017. George and Melissa attended the Defense Research Institute conference on product liability in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The conference is a gathering of product liability lawyers from around the country and features seminars and discussions on high profile liability issues, current litigation trends, and practice tips. George and Melissa also took in some local sights, including dining at Alize, at the top of the Palms, with fellow attendees. They also got some early morning exercise, running to and from the iconic WELCOME to Fabulous Las Vegas sign.

George Soule Appointed to Tribal Court of Appeals for Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa

indiancommunityFebruary 2017.  The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa appointed George Soule to serve as a Judge on the Band’s Court of Appeals.  George will hear appeals from the Band’s Tribal Court.  George is also a Court of Appeals Judge for the White Earth Band of Ojibwe and Prairie Island Indian Community.  He is a past President of the Minnesota American Indian Bar Association.

Soule & Stull sponsors DIW LEAP Food Shelf Benefit

divindianworkJanuary 2017.  Soule & Stull is a sponsor for the LEAP fundraiser for the Food Shelf program of the Division of Indian Work in Minneapolis. The event will be held on February 27, 2017.  DIW provides food, clothing and other services to American Indian individuals and families in need throughout our community.  George serves on the DIW Board of Directors.  The event will be lively and fun with great, local entertainment, silent auction and food and drink.  For more information about the event, or to buy tickets, click here.

 

Soule & Stull Celebrates Third Anniversary

January 27, 2017.  Soule & Stull celebrated its Third Anniversary with family at Erte in Minneapolis.   George Soule and Melissa Stull started their firm in February 2014.  Kevin Curry has been with the firm almost from its start and Meghan Feliciano joined us in 2016.  Retired Justice Paul Anderson and Judge John McShane provide mediation and arbitration and consulting services.  The firm focuses on product liability, commercial litigation, personal injury and property damage, Indian law, appeals, and alternative dispute resolution.

George Soule serves as Chair of Minnesota State Chancellor Search Advisory Committee

mncollegeslogoJanuary 2017. The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees selected George Soule to Chair a 19-member Search Committee to review applications, interview candidates and make recommendations to the Board Chair. The Committee worked in December and January to fulfill its mission. Minnesota State serves nearly 400,000 students, with 30 colleges, 7 universities, and 54 campuses across the state.

Kevin Curry Named to National Ski Patrol

December 2016. Kevin is now a member of the Buck Hill chapter of the National Ski Patrol.  The creed of the patrol is “Service and Safety.”  Its mission is to help skiers and snowboarders safely enjoy their time on the slopes and provide assistance in case of an accident.  To be a patroller, a person must be a strong skier and be certified in CPR and Outdoor Emergency Care & Transportation.  Much like lawyering, a sense of humor helps too.

Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers of Minnesota honors Judge McShane as Distinguished Jurist

On November 10, 2016 the Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers of Minnesota awarded Judge John McShane the 2016 Distinguished Jurist Award for his service to the legal community. The ACTLM promotes the ideals of fair, just, effective, and expeditious experience in the judicial system. Judge McShane spoke to the attendees about effective advocacy and the importance of being oneself in front of judges and juries.

Justice Natalie Hudson Wins Supreme Court Election

JusticeHudsonNovember 9, 2016.  Justice Natalie Hudson won election to the Minnesota Supreme Court yesterday, gaining 58.78% of the vote.  Governor Mark Dayton appointed Justice Hudson to the Supreme Court in 2015.  Having won election, Justice Hudson will serve a six-year term.

There were seven other contested judicial races on the ballot in Minnesota.  In the Fourth Judicial District (Hennepin County), incumbent Judges Carolina Lamas and Paul Scoggin easily won election.  There were five contested seats in the Third Judicial District (southeastern Minnesota); the incumbents all defeated their challengers.

Minnesota Lawyer Honors Kelly Street as Unsung Legal Hero
