Soule & Stull and Jeffrey Toobin

GeoMelissaToobinApril 2016. Soule & Stull sponsored a table at the MSBA Civil Litigation Annual Meeting at Windows on Minnesota in Minneapolis. Nearly 200 local attorneys, including George, Melissa, Kevin and S&S clients and friends, attended the event, at which Fourth Judicial District Chief Judge Cahill received the Advocate Award. The keynote speaker was Jeffrey Toobin, legal analyst for CNN and The New Yorker magazine and author of The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court (2007) and The Oath: The Obama White House and the Supreme Court (2012). Mr. Toobin spoke on the effect of the 2016 election on The United States Supreme Court, providing a unique look at the inner workings of The Supreme Court and its influence, as well as his thoughts on how the upcoming elections will shape the court and, in turn, the nation. The event was sponsored by the Civil Litigation Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association. Melissa is a member of the Governing Council of the MSBA Civil Litigation Section and was instrumental in organizing the event and Mr. Toobin’s talk.

George Soule Inducted Fellow in the International Society of Barristers

unnamedApril 11, 2016.  The International Society of Barristers inducted George Soule as a Fellow of the Society at its April 2016 Convention near San Diego.  With regular membership of less than 700 lawyers adjudged by their peers and judges to be “outstanding in the field of advocacy,” the Society is dedicated to preserving trial by jury, the adversary system and an independent judiciary.

George is also a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and an Associate in the American Board of Trial Advocates.  He served as Minnesota Chapter President of ABOTA in 2014.

Melissa Stull and George Soule author Product Liability article for Furniture World Magazine

April 2016. Melissa Stull and George Soule published an article, “A Look at Product Liability: The Product Liability Landscape for Furniture Retailers and Manufacturers” in the 2016 March/April edition of Furniture World, a magazine serving the furniture industry.  This article, aimed at furniture retailers and manufacturers, explains product liability law is it relates to the furniture industry and the special challenges manufacturers and retailers face in light of the focus on furniture safety and liability.  Read the article here.

George’s cookies draw $350 at auction for DIW Food Shelf

February 29, 2016. George’s “world famous” chocolate chip cookies raised $350 at auction for the Division of Indian Work Food Shelf in Minneapolis. On Leap Year Day, over 200 people attended the DIW’s first food shelf fundraiser. The event featured well-known, local musicians, a silent auction, and live auction. Soule & Stull was an event sponsor, and George serves on the DIW Board of Directors. DIW provides food, clothing and other services to American Indian individuals and families in need throughout our community.

Soule & Stull celebrates Second Anniversary

Soule & Stull celebrates second anniversary! Soule & Stull recently celebrated its Second Anniversary with family at Burch in Minneapolis. George Soule and Melissa Stull started their firm in February 2014. The firm focuses on product liability, commercial litigation, personal injury and property damage, Indian law, appeals, and alternative dispute resolution.

Melissa Stull spoke at MSBA Seminar “Fit to Practice: What to do when your client is sued”

m-stull-webJanuary 4, 2016. Melissa Stull joined Judge Edward Wahl and practitioner Daniel McGrath to discuss strategies for responding to a new lawsuit. Discussion topics included the use of checklists in managing the initial phase of litigation and how to address conflicts and obtain waivers, analyze venue and jurisdiction, develop a case strategy and plan that is consistent with your client’s objectives, investigate key facts, and determine whether a litigation hold is needed. The seminar was sponsored by the Civil Litigation and New Lawyers Sections of the Minnesota State Bar Association. Melissa is a member of the Governing Council of the MSBA Civil Litigation Section. Melissa Stull and George Soule published an article “The Product Liability Landscape For Furniture Users, Manufacturers and Sellers” in the January 2016 issue of LJN’s Product Liability Law & Strategy, a monthly publication for product liability practitioners. Homes are full of products, i.e., furniture, that have been the subject of litigation, the focus of standards and the target of Consumer Prod­uct Safety Commission (CPSC) in­vestigations. November 16, 2015. Soule & Stull sponsored Angel Flight’s Benefit at The Jungle Theater on November 16. George, Melissa and Kelly and family, clients and friends attended the event, which featured Minneapolis jazz vocalist Connie Evingson with Patty & the Buttons. Angel Flight Central is a nonprofit organization serving people in need by arranging charitable flights to access critical healthcare needs. The organization has provided free air transportation for families in the Midwest for over 15 years. From 1999 – 2002, George served as Chair of the Minnesota Commission on Judicial Selection under Governor Jesse Ventura. From 1991 – 1999, George served as Vice-Chair of the Commission under Governor Arne Carlson.
