August 15, 2019 Soule & Stull celebrated summer in George and Lisa’s backyard on Thursday evening. The S&S team, complete with spouses and children, gathered for good food and great company. The barbeque brisket, sidewalk chalk, blueberry peach cobbler, and games of tag were just a few of the many highlights of the evening.
August 14, 2019. George participated in a panel discussion on “Effective Arbitration Advocacy at the Hearing: Arbitrators Share What Works and What Doesn’t” at a Minnesota CLE seminar, Best Practices for Advocates in Arbitrations, in Minneapolis. George focused on presentation and cross-examination of experts at an arbitration hearing. In addition to his work as a trial lawyer, George serves as an arbitrator and represents clients in arbitrations.
July 2019. Super Lawyers released its annual list of top attorneys, and named Melissa a Rising Star and George a Super Lawyer in the publication’s 2019 rankings. George has received Super Lawyer designation every year since 1998 and Melissa has received Rising Star status every year since 2013.
July 18, 2019 – Soule & Stull again sponsored the Minnesota American Indian Bar Association golf tournament, held at The Meadows at Mystic Lake. The tournament benefits American Indian students attending Minnesota law schools. George is a past president of MAIBA. Soule & Stull has supported the golf tournament for six years and Melissa and George have played in the tournament together nearly every year for the last fourteen years. George and Melissa were joined by our good friend Anton van der Merwe (who gets credit for the photograph). Melissa and Anton played good golf!
May 2019. George greeted graduating students at three college and university commencements this month. A Trustee on the Minnesota State College and Universities Board, George spoke to students at Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College on May 10, and at Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College on May 16. At Bemidji State, George spent time with retired Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page, recognized as a Distinguished Minnesotan by the university. Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College is a unique partnership between tribe and state. The commencement there was very moving, with native drums, a jingle dancer, and the Star Spangled Banner sung in the Ojibwe language!

May 7, 2019. Spring was late this year, but was in full bloom at the firm’s 5th Annual Spring Deck Party. About 100 friends, family, community leaders, lawyers and judges got together for a good time.
April 30, 2019. Soule & Stull sponsored the Minnesota State Bar Association Civil Litigation Section Annual Dinner, held at the Marriott City Center in downtown Minneapolis. Melissa is the Chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association Civil Litigation Section and hosted the evening’s events. Approximately 200 local attorneys, judges and clients attended the Annual Dinner. Barbara McQuade, former U.S. Attorney, Eastern District of Michigan and current University of Michigan law professor and legal analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, gave the keynote address. Professor McQuade provided an educational view on the Tools of the Federal Prosecutor and the Mueller Report. The Section honored former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page with the 2019 Advocate Award. Soule & Stull is home of three Civil Litigation Chairs—George, Kevin, and Melissa—and two Advocate Award recipients—George and Paul.

April 2, 2019. George and his former colleague Kenneth Ross today presented a webinar on Post-sale Duties: How to Comply and How to Defend Product Liability Litigation after Recalls. This presentation focused on “best practices for managing and defending recalls, typical case theories in lawsuits alleging inadequate recalls, and strategies to defend the product after a recall has occurred.” George and Ken have written several articles about recalls and defense of recalled products. February 6, 2019. The Minnesota Supreme Court announced its appointment of Melissa Stull as Attorney Member of the Minnesota Commission on Judicial Selection for the Fourth Judicial District. The Commission solicits, considers, and recommends candidates to the Governor for vacancies in Minnesota’s district courts. It consists of members – attorneys and non-attorneys – appointed by the Governor and the Supreme Court, including nine at-large members and four members from each of Minnesota’s ten judicial districts. Melissa will participate in commission meetings to recommend candidates for vacancies on the Fourth Judicial District (Hennepin County), the state’s largest district.
February 25, 2019. George’s chocolate chip cookies were auctioned again this year at DIW’s annual LEAP fundraiser. The winning bids totaled $1200. Soule & Stull joined other Twin Cities law firms and businesses to sponsor the 4th Annual Division of Indian Work LEAP Event on January 25. DIW provides food, clothing and other services to American Indian individuals and families in need throughout our community. Over 400 people attended the event – to raise funds for DIW food shelf and youth development programs. The event featured native drummers, musicians and dancers, and silent and live auctions. George serves as Chair of the DIW Board of Directors.
February 2, 2019. Soule & Stull celebrated its Fifth Anniversary with family at Spoon & Stable in Minneapolis. George Soule and Melissa Stull started their firm in February 2014. Kevin Curry has been with the firm almost from its start, Meghan Feliciano joined us in 2016, Alice McGlave and Anna Veit-Carter started in 2017, and Alison Jacobs joined us in 2018. Retired Justice Paul Anderson and Judge John McShane provide mediation and arbitration and consulting services. “2018 was a big year for our firm, and we have several interesting and challenging matters on our docket in 2019,” Melissa Stull said. The firm focuses on product liability, commercial litigation, personal injury and property damage, Indian law, appeals, and alternative dispute resolution.
December 12, 2018. The Board of Directors of the Division of Indian Work in Minneapolis elected George as its Chair. George has been a member of the Board since 2014, and will serve a three-year term as Chair. In 2018, DIW separated from its parent; DIW is a separate 501(c)(3) organization. Division of Indian Work’s mission is to empower urban American Indians through culturally-based education, counseling, advocacy and leadership development.
